PLAYING FOR CHANGE DAY
For this short unit, lasting the first few weeks in September, we studied the ideas and themes of creative activism.
The idea of creative activism is opposing or supporting an idea or value, using creative mediums like art or music.
During the 2010-2011 school year, the Cabot Middle School created a video of Vermont students singing Matisyahu's hit song, One Day. The video was to promote the idea of global citizenship, and how people can unite through music.

The video was sent to the Playing for Change Foundation (a non-profit organization who supports the ideals of world peace and global cooperation through music), and Cabot School was invited to participate in Playing For Change Day, one day in the year when music events would take place all over the planet, raising money for music education in third-world countries.
Cabot School elected that some of the funds raised from their event would go to the South Royalton School music program, which had been largely destroyed by the floods this spring and summer.
For these weeks, the projects I worked on were questions about the idea of global citizenship, and what it means. I also collaborated with a few people on a project called 100 People: looking at the world's population if there were only 100 people on the planet.
